Why It’s Never Been A Better Time To Get Away

vacation time in uncertain times

Summer vacation season is upon us and children are finished with their distance learning for this school year.  It’s the perfect time to pack up and take a road trip or even a stay-cation while we still practice social distancing measures.  Crowded amusement parks and concerts may still be in limbo, but you can enjoy many summer getaway destinations.  Getting away can help you recharge after being cooped up indoors due to the pandemic.

Get outdoors and breathe free air again!

While face masks have become part of our regular wardrobe, it feels good to take the mask off and breathe in the fresh air and freedom.  There are plenty of outdoor activities that you and your family can do while staying far enough away from others outside of your household.  Camping, canoeing or kayaking, and fishing are just a few ideas.  Hiking and biking on trails have become popular as well.  You can even hit the lake or beach to swim, surf, or just relax by the water.

Local Favorites

The popular Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park Camp-Resorts offer five Texas locations, as well as many other locations across the nation.   Whether you want to bring your RV and tents or rent a deluxe cabin or cottage, you can enjoy plenty of outdoor activities with your family.  Some of the many activities include boating, water tubing, fishing, swimming at the pools, splash pads, and water slides!

Hawaiin Falls  offers five Texas locations and is open for business at a limited capacity with safety measures in place to purchase summer passes.  For those who don’t have a private pool or access to a community pool, this is an ideal option to keep your distance and enjoy the waves!

Texas State Parks offer camping, fishing, hiking, etc.  Limited hours are available by Park.  Hikers are gearing up to enjoy some of the South’s most beautiful trails such as Eagle Mountain Lake Park, Grapevine Lake Parks and more.

Take a road trip!

Road trips are making a big come-back this year since many people still wish to avoid flying or taking public transportation in the wake of a pandemic.  It’s a great way to see many sights while social distancing.  Road trips can be done safely, but you’ll need to plan and use these practical tips to ensure safety.

  1.  Plan out your destinations and do your research ahead of time.  The various states have different reopening guidelines.  Traveling on major highways will offer more options for food and hotels that are open.  Check availability if you plan to stop and rest during your travels.
  2. Pack plenty of supplies.  Have plenty of snacks and drinks along for the ride to avoid unnecessary stops.  Pack items like disposable gloves for handling gas pumps and public door handles.  Bring hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes for keeping your hands and surfaces clean.

Put Your Toes in The Sand

Get away to Texas’ Galveston Beaches at a safe distance on a moment’s notice.  You will be doing your health a favor by soaking in the salty air while supporting the local tourism community at the same time!

While some amenities may be temporarily closed or adjusted to make social distancing possible, these parks and beaches are committed to following health and safety measures for all guests.

Have FUN!

Most importantly, don’t forget to have fun!  Yes, we may need to do more planning ahead instead of spontaneous traveling.  We may experience new anxieties around travel that we did not have before the pandemic.  This is your time to let go of the stress or worry and share in some adventure with family.  This is a time to regroup after so many months of uncertainty and tension.  Permit yourself to relax.  You deserve it!
